TGIF, ya’ll.

My parents, brother and sister-in-law have been in Augusta at the Masters this week. My dad won the chance to buy tickets in the lottery last summer and invited all of us to go. Alas, I’m nursing a baby so it just wasn’t in the cards for me this year.

The baby’s worth it though. I think. Yep. Totally worth being in pollen-infused Oklahoma instead of gorgeous Augusta this week.

I’m just going to keep reminding myself that the boy is a bigger better “bucket list” item than some silly golf tournament would ever be.

Yeah…

Anyway, I’ve spent a lot of time this week nursing my FOMO and perusing pretty things on line that made me think of the Masters. That pretty much boils down to floral prints, and all things fresh and new for spring!  I love this time of year, minus the pollen. I’m pretty sure my coworkers would like for me to stay 10-12 feet away from them at all times due to all the sneezing. Get outta here, pollen.

1. J. Crew Factory Printed Pleated Shift Dress

This dress is REALLY pretty in person and is the perfect weight for spring events – bridal showers, Easter Sunday, you name it – this dress is for you. They have 50% off site wide right now so you can nab this for a great price!

2. LOFT Eyelet One Shoulder Dress

Full disclosure: I’m not totally sure how I feel about the one-shouldered-ness of this dress BUT the color + lace + ruffle are such a pretty combo that I might be able to forgive the whole one arm naked look.

3. Smallwood Home “Darling” Sign Board

I’ve found myself moderately obsessed with this company since I bought their Forever Young sign board and hung it in our playroom. They have the prettiest prints and I was really pleased with the quality for the price. Wouldn’t that print be precious in a little girl’s room or a girly play space? Love. Bonus – it’s on sale!

4. A Very Punny Mat

I love kicking off spring with a fresh new doormat to match what should be perfectly manicured flower beds but did you see the part above about the pollen? Anyway, I came across this and it made me actually laugh out loud because I am a big huge dork and a sucker for a pun.

5. Y’allsome Amen Corner Tee

No Masters-themed round up would be complete without a Masters-themed tee! I’ve basically fall in love with Y’allsome and their products. They also donate a portion of their proceeds to support foster care across the south. Win. Win. Win.

That’s a wrap for today, folks. Have a fab weekend!

A funny thing occurred to me while I was getting ready for work last week.

There’s really only one thing, just one, that I’ve done with any level of consistency since I was a teenager.

Weigh Myself.

Not eat breakfast. Not pray. Not exercise. Not read or write or even have a glass of wine, all things I claim to enjoy. All things that make me happy.

I’ve weighed myself nearly every single day for the last 15 years.

It’s weird how mindless that task has become, while simultaneously being one of the things that most heavily influences my day.

Wake up. Feed the baby. Brush Teeth. Step on scale. Get ready. Go to work.

Step. On. Scale.

The 30 seconds I spend standing on that little square in my bathroom pretty much frames my day. The numbers that appear on that digital display influence my thoughts on my appearance, on what I’m “allowed” to eat that day, and, ultimately, tell me if I’d been “good” the day before.

If I’ve been good the day before.

How absurd is that? I know without stepping on a scale whether or not I’ve eaten good nutritious foods, if I’ve exercised, if I’ve gotten enough rest. (I’ve never gotten enough rest).  How my clothes fit are also a pretty good indication of how I’ve treated myself lately.  I don’t need a scale to tell me those things.

So really, all that scale can do is make me feel discouraged. If I’ve done all of those things, and that number has ticked up, what good has that done for me? I’ve thrown my hands up in the air and stepped off the healthy-eating train more times than I’d like to admit because the scale didn’t validate my good choices from the day(s) prior.

Here’s the thing: I’m always the first to tell my friends that the number on the scale doesn’t matter. That, ultimately, feeling strong and healthy is far more important than any number on any scale.

I’m lousy at taking my own advice.

But I’m going to start now. I have this little three foot version of myself that runs around and mimics everything I do. When I put on lipstick, she wants lipstick. When I put on a dress, she wants one too. When I curl my hair, she…well. She has curly hair so that bit actually confuses her. In her mind I should just be able to twirl my hair around my finger and have gorgeous ringlets like hers.

The point is, it would break my heart if her days were shaped by a number she sees on the scale. She told me yesterday that she wants to be a superhero doctor when she grows up because she is STRONG and she is SMART.

Superhero doctors aren’t bothered by numbers on a scale. And I’m not going to be, either.

Full disclosure: I love holidays.

Even when they make me a little crazy.

I know that I have such a short window on being able to convince my children that a bunny waltzed into our house and filled baskets with goodies for them, and I intend to capitalize on these impressionable years.  I want them to wake up on Easter morning to baskets overflowing with goodies. More is more! Sorry not sorry, in spite of throwing away my daughter’s toys, we really aren’t minimalists around here.

Problem is, gifts for allll the holidays really starts to add up. And candy is such an easy & cheap way to fill those baskets to the brim, amiright?

However, my kids are 3 years old and 7 months old. The 3 year old is sure to get plenty of candy egg hunting and the 7 month old is still a toothless little lad. And in general? I don’t like providing my children with candy for no good reason. That’s what grandparents are for.

I’m also a big believer in shopping way in advance for things – because inevitably the plague will hit my house on the day that I’ve set aside to shop.  So in addition to a few goodies found at my old standby (the dollar spot at Target) the Easter Bunny tells me that my kids will see some of these items in their baskets this year.
