Show and Tell Tuesday

Today I’m linking up with Andrea at Momfessionals for Show & Tell Tuesday.  When I saw today’s topic for this I KNEW I had to participate…today is all about showing your favorite room in your house.

I had to think about this for, oh, one half of one second…my favorite room in our house is G’s room.

Vivi Room1

I loved putting this room together when I was pregnant.  It’s a mix of old, new, inherited & DIY items and I love inch of it!  It’s a small room, but I poured a lot of love into it.

Here’s a little tour:

I knew I didn’t want a traditional changing table so when I was pregnant I was on the hunt for a long dresser – and came across this antique buffet. We painted it with chalk paint and I love how it turned out.  Behind the doors on the sides are diapers, extra wipes, blankets, and spare changing pad covers. The drawers hold socks, shoes, daycare clothes & pajamas.  It’s the perfect piece!

changing table

The painting above the buffet hung in my room when I was a little girl. I love the way the purple looks against the blue/green walls and all the bright colors in it.  G also loves this picture now. She points to it all the time and we talk about Noah’s ark and name the animals.

chairI know everyone wants a glider for their nursery, but I have to say that I have logged MILES rocking G in this thing and it is SO comfortable. And takes up far less space than a glider.  Also, this is such a special heirloom.  I’m the 4th generation to rock a baby to sleep in this chair and I just love that.

book wallI love this wall.  My mom found the hanging shelf at a local consignment/antique store and the bookcase (and many of the books!) were a gift from my aunt who is a kindergarten teacher.  We love books in this house!  And bows. Clearly. But that’s an entire post of it’s own.  I love having a bookcase that lets the book fronts face out – G beelines for this every morning when I’m getting her dressed for school and J let’s her pick out a book from here to read every night.

This bookcase.  See that toile backing? That is proof that nesting is real. I hacked apart G’s crib box and covered the cardboard pieces with that fabric. It took a sweet forever- which is ironic because I did it this way thinking, “Oh this will be great because when she outgrows the nursery rhyme toile I can just swap it out.”

NOPE. Sorry kid, toile forever or change it yourself.

It should also be noted that this bookcase was in my room growing up in a sponge-painted purple version. Sponge paint. God bless the 90s.

The crib wall.  I’m really happy with the way her monogram turned out – it’s a vinyl sticker that I bought Here.  I also love her Haba Sunshine Mobile.  It’s supposed to be suspended from the ceiling but I just decided to affix it to the top of the bookcase – she can still see it from the crib & her monogram isn’t blocked this way.

corner

The last little corner.  A friend’s mom made that shelf and I actually had it in my room in college.  – total luck that the back of it goes perfectly with the walls & pink accents in her room.  And yes, that’s her Easter basket sitting on top…because that’s normal decor, right?

details

A few last details.  My mom needle pointed the “baby sleeping” pillow for G when I was pregnant with her and cross-stitched the two rabbit pictures when she was pregnant with me.

This was far wordier and more picture-heavy than I originally intended, but I just love this room!

Well. I thought that I would announce the Magic Sleep Suit giveaway winner along with a nice little recap of our weekend.

Sadly, our weekend recap is as follows:

First there was snow.

Then there was more snow.

Also, it was cold, because, snow.

We learned about ourselves that we cannot live in a place that has a legitimate winter because snow days weekends become an excuse to eat copious amounts of food and binge-watch Netflix.  It’s possible we watched the entire new season of House of Cards. DON’T JUDGE. THERE WAS SNOW.

Spring, you’re welcome to make your entrance any time now. We’re ready.

But, in a move that proves we can be real people despite winter – we went to church.

This is not church, but our messy (I make no apologies. We operate in real life around here) bedroom before we left.  Houndstooth on babies FTW. It just occurred to me that she totally looks like a little Alabama fan here, but that’s okay.  We’ll love her in spite of it.

(How did Alabama get claim on such a fabulous print as a collegiate symbol? Can TCU claim chevron? How do we make this happen?)

Okay, as riveting as all my snow and fabric talk must be, let’s get to the winner, shall we?

I “drew” a winner using Random.org and RANDEE – you won!  I’ll be e-mailing you soon!

For those that did not win – I still stand by my statement that this suit was worth every penny.  You can get one directly from the Sleepsuit company HERE or from Amazon HERE.  I wish you all the best of luck with getting your little ones to sleep through the night!

Thank you to everyone who entered – I have more great giveaways lined up so stay tuned!

Now, maybe if we all click our heels three times the snow will go away? I’m sure Frank Underwood would not stand for this nonsense.

(pssst – have you entered my giveaway for a magic sleep suit? Last day to enter is Sunday!)

We went to Tulsa to visit J’s parents last weekend. At some point on our drive over we realized that, just like when his parents are visiting us here, when we go there…we have babysitters.

So, naturally, we decided to have ourselves a little Tulsa date night.

One of our favorite things to do is to walk around a part of town with a lot of bars & restaurants and just hop from place to place eating appetizers and having cocktails. So we headed down to the Brady Arts District and set out to do just that.

Our first stop was The Tavern.

tavern

I loved this place from the second we walked in.  It has a very bar-like feel when you first walk in but there’s also a really pretty dining area.  We actually sat at that table in the picture above. I snapped that pic as we were leaving and if you look carefully you can see my purse straps on the chair on the left.

Yes. I walked out of the restaurant with my phone and without my purse. I am very responsible.

Here is what you need to know about this place:

bacon popcorn

Bacon Popcorn.

I’ll give you a minute to let that sink in.

I cannot begin to tell you how good this was. As we dug in we realized there was something sweet and wonderful on the bottom of the plate.  I asked our waiter about it and he said it was maple butter.  That’s right, just when you think BACON POPCORN cannot get any better they double down with MAPLE BUTTER.  And also? The popcorn is popped in bacon fat, just for good measure.

I told J later that I could have eaten an absolutely embarrassing amount of this if given the opportunity. And, bless him, he didn’t tell me that I already had.

tavern 2

I asked our waiter for a cocktail recommendation and he did not steer me wrong with this.  I had the Summer Babe and it was light, refreshing and delicious.  We also ordered the beef tenderloin skewers which were just perfection.

We left the Tavern and walked down the street and around the corner to Mason’s.  Mason’s has such a great casual vibe.  When you walk in there are comfy couches, games, and a STOCKED bar.

masons 1

See above: the jukebox of the future (of the now?).  When we walked in “Party in the USA” was blaring and my first thought was, “that song does not match this place” and then I saw the digital jukebox and it all made sense.

We ordered our drinks, I got a cucumber spritzer that I did not get a picture of – so just trust me when I say it basically looked like a large glass of water. The bartender was super accommodating, he let John sample a few beers from the tap before he settled on one he liked.

After we had our beverages, I noticed a long narrow hallway leading to…where?

pool

Leading to this room o’ fun. We played 2 games of pool and I learned this about my husband: He is very good at pool.

And I learned this about myself: I am very bad at pool.

But we TIED at a game a piece because on the second game he scratched on the 8 ball. #DefaultWinsStillCount.  After that miracle I was all “Let’s go to the next place!” because I didn’t want to walk out of the bar a loser.

This is where, on a normal date night “food crawl” we would have gone to someplace else for dinner. Instead, we went back to the Tavern because the menu just looked TOO GOOD.

It did not disappoint.  We decided on a few things to share. And oh my gosh, I’m so glad we did.  They might as well have been family style portions. For example, here is the pear, fennel, and arugula salad:

salad

It was HUGE. And also fresh and just the right amount of salty & sweet. We also ordered the Steak Frites and the Angry Mac & Cheese which was spicy and delicious.

We did our best to save room for dessert, because when we were at Mason’s, we noticed what looked like a bakery across the street.  So after dinner we went back down the street and around the corner again to satisfy our sweet tooth at Glacier Confections.

This is the part where I shut up and let the pictures speak for themselves:

confections

So. Many. Truffles.

We bought a large sampling to take home with us and enjoyed the heck out of them over the next few days.  This place is absolutely worth a trip – I mean, a strawberries and champagne truffle? YUM.

All in all, this was an absolutely perfect date night for us.  The Brady Art’s District did not disappoint – we can’t wait to go back!
