This is a sponsored post for Taco Bueno. All opinions are my own.

Fun fact: I had never even had “fast casual” Mexican food until I was in my mid twenties.

I KNOW RIGHT?

That’s not to say that I haven’t had my fair share of experience with Mexican food. Hello, I went to college in Texas and spent a good portion of my early 20’s there. I’m pretty sure at one point in my life I spent about half of my paycheck every month on margaritas.

I was very classy.

Anyway, the times they sure have changed and now a night spent over margs is a RARE occurrence. Not so rare? A family that expects to eat dinner every night.

EVERY NIGHT.

The audacity.

Enter: The Whollota Box.

Guys, it’s basically a pizza box OF TACOS.  Well, not just tacos. For $10 you get 12 tacos (or burritos, or 6 of each) two sides of rice, two sides of beans, chips and some of their delicious salsa.

Full disclosure: This was ENTIRELY too much food for my family, considering G will generally take 3 bites of anything and the baby isn’t quite ready for tacos yet. BUT – this would be the PERFECT thing to grab for a Memorial day pool party/your kids next slumber party/a quick meal for a larger family.

Also, we did our very best to make a dent in this. I loved the tacos. My husband was a big fan of all the sides, and my daughter, well…

She’s a burrito girl through and through.

Guys. She legit walked around the house going “this is so yummy, mommy!” HALLELJUAH AMEN. A toddler approved meal – victory!!

Yes, she’s wearing a winter hat there. I don’t even know anymore. I can’t even pretend to be in charge half the time.

…as evidenced by the fact that she strolled off with a burrito and ate it at the coffee table.

We’ve had a cold, blustery, generally gross weekend here in central Oklahoma. So naturally, I’ve been doing some shopping for warm weather clothes.

If I buy it, the sun will come, right?

Oh, and I just glanced up at the title of this post as I’ve been browsing online to find some of my favorite looks for this summer and I definitely had this titled, “Summer 2018”.

The way I see it, you can take that one of two ways.

1. I am very fashion forward and these looks will definitely last you through two seasons.

or

2. I have lost my mind and everything I say from here on out is irrelevant.

You be the judge.

Anyway, one working motherhood struggle that surprised me was my wardrobe. I’ve never had to THINK so danged much about what I wear. Right now my clothes need to be appropriate for work, and also the park, and also the lobby of dance class – oh, and it’s nice if I can breastfeed in it too.

Is that so much to ask?

All that to say, I have high standards for the things I’ll spend my money on these days. These are a few things that fit the bill for me.

Summer 2017 Working Momma Wardrobe

yoki bootieYoki Criss Cross Bootie

If you do nothing else, buy these booties. They are a STEAL and so, so comfortable. Perfect to wear with dresses, skirts, or jeans on a Friday (like I did). If you’re local, you can pick these up at Mainstream Boutique in Edmond.

Loft Painterly Floral Shirt Dress

I love that this is colorful without being all in yo’ face about it. And the pattern is just the right amount of floral + modern for me. Plus – shirt dress! Super easy to throw on and a flattering style for all.

Loft Striped Henley Utility Blouse

I love these tops. I have this in another pattern but the light & airy stripes on this one are super cute. This is so easy to dress up for work by tucking it into a skirt or wear on a Saturday with jeans. It’s such an easy piece to add to your closet.

J Crew Fringe Dot Midi Skirt

I have ALL the heart eyes for this whole look. The dots. The chambray shirt. The sunnies. Perfection. I love the flounce in this skirt and that it’s long enough that I could wear it to the park even on the most blustery of Oklahoma days.

J Crew Three Quarter Sleeve Perfect Shirt

You know how it can be 147 degrees outside but and yet it’s still an arctic tundra in your office? This shirt is a great solution. If you don’t have a J Crew perfect shirt in your closet – you need one. There’s a reason they’re called a “perfect shirt” and a crisp white shirt like this is a MUST. Especially in a three quarter sleeve!

Laser Cut Ballet Flats

I adore a ballet flat, you guys. Which, at 5’1″, I probably should venture out and wear a heel every now and then – but have you tried toting an infant carrier in heels? It’s not a cute look. These are from G’s favorite store – Target – and are super reasonably priced and obviously super cute. Perfect summer shoe for the office or the park.

Michael Kors Shift Dress

I always feel like I’m cheating a little bit when I throw on a dress like this for work because it’s so darn easy. Throw it on, slide on some cute shoes, and call it good. Comfortable enough to wear to the office AND for your evening gig of chauffeuring your kids to various activities.

Textured Shift Dress

So, I think with the right accessories (A belt? A long necklace? Tell me what you think) this dress could be a win. It’s yet another shift which makes  it easy to throw on and go – and I really love this color for summer. How pretty would that be against a tan? Do moms get to be tan anymore? I’m basically translucent these days.

Square Stud Earrings Set

These are on sale right now and are a BARGAIN. I love a stud earring because my son loves to yank on anything he can get his chubby little hands on and, well, I like my earlobes intact thankyouverymuch. Truly though – these come in a TON of color combos and are on sale for $9.99 for two pairs! Such a win. I may grab several to have on hand for gifts.

Jersey Jacket

I am sadly without a great blazer in my closet right now but I love the look of this one. It’s always nice to have something like that on hand to throw on over jeans for casual Friday at work – and it’s easy to ditch once you’re with your kids playing outside. Plus – H&M rarely lets me down when it comes to affordable wardrobe staples.

Happy shopping!

working mom

It’s 5 a.m. and the first of my alarms goes off.

I have to set several, I’ve learned the hard way that I’m not to be trusted with the snooze button.

I hit snooze (See? Told ya so) and burrow back into the covers, willing the new day to wait just a few more minutes.

Instead, I hear the baby stirring.

And so my day begins.

I trudge to his room to nurse him, trying to reach him before his whimpers turn into wails and he wakes his big sister. I’m partially successful, we get halfway through the feeding before my three year old wakes up and starts calling for me from her bed.

I call back to her and tell her to come join us. She crawls in my lap and I sit in the glider underneath the weight of both of my children, I push my feet against the plush ottoman to rock us back and forth, back and forth…

It’s soothing, this quiet moment with my babies. Or at least, it should be. But my mind starts to spin with the things I need to get done that day. I know I have a few e-mails to respond to, and some reports due out, and what else? I can’t fully remember in my under-caffeinated state.

Mommy? Please you put my hair in a ponytail like Rapunzel?

My daughter’s request snaps me back into momma mode and I smile and say yes. We make our way to the bathroom so I can smooth the tangles out of her hair and get her ready for the day.

It’s hard, sometimes. Not thinking about work when I’m at home.

Eventually, miraculously, I make it to work on time and settle into my routine. Coffee, e-mail, making my to-do list. The day moves quickly – and that’s by design. I do my best to stay as busy as possible so I don’t have time to let my mind wander.

Even so, I find myself glancing at my phone to make sure I haven’t missed a call from daycare. I spend most of my lunch time trying to figure out the perfect place for my daughter to take gymnastics, it’s all she’s been talking about lately. I take a break to pump milk for the baby.

And random things remind me of random things. My coworker talks of her daughter’s cheer competition and that reminds me I need to pay the invoice for ballet. I nearly spill the milk I just pumped and I remember I need to add milk to the grocery list – and what else? Eggs, maybe? I can’t fully remember in between the hustle and bustle of my work day.

The phone rings, my e-mail pings, and I’m back to work.

It’s hard, sometimes. Not thinking about home when I’m at work.

I hurry out the door at the end of the day, eager to pick up my kids from school. My heart melts when the baby beams at me from across the room and attempts to army crawl toward me. I put him on my hip as we head toward my daughter’s class.

She shows me everything she’s done that day and I smile and nod while walking toward her cubby – I know there will be a bag of soiled clothes in there because she’s not wearing the pants I sent her to school in that morning. Another day, another accident. Such is the life of a potty training child.

When we get home I toss the soiled clothes in the washer to be dealt with later and we head outside to play. I’m still in my work clothes – and I don’t even care. We skip and sing and play pretend until dusk. I do my best to slow my mind down, to not worry about the things left undone so I can focus on teaching my daughter how to draw flowers with sidewalk chalk on the driveway. So I can cheer as the baby rolls over for the umpteenth time.

It’s hard, sometimes. Making the pivot from professional to momma.

Dinner, bath, and bedtime come too quickly – they always do. I worry as the evening turns to night that I’m not doing enough. Do they feel loved? Do they feel valued? Do they know that I’m here for them – even when we’re apart? Do they know that when I go to work each day, it’s for them?

At the end of the day, my daughter and I curl up to read books in her bed. As we settle in, she nestles her head into the crook of my arm. Her messy curls spill onto my shoulder and brush against my cheek. She flings an arm across my neck and softly whispers, “I love you, mommy”.

And I know I’m doing something right.
